The loss of Tucker Carlson has caused Fox News Channel to lose hundreds of thousands of viewers in the all-important 8 p.m. Eastern time slot.
According to data from TV news site TVNewser, an estimated 2,597,000 viewers turned into replacement program “Fox News Tonight,” which was hosted by Brian Kilmeade as the first of several rotating hosts, on Monday after Mr. Carlson’s sudden departure.
That tally easily beat out the competing programs on CNN and MSNBC in the same time slot, but a ratings drop of more than 20% from “Tucker Carlson Tonight.”
Mr. Carlson’s program, however, had averaged 3.3 million viewers over the eight weeks prior to Monday, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The 700,000 fewer people watching the show Monday represented an audience decline of 21.3%.
Fox News Channel’s “The Five” talk show had the highest ratings of any cable news program Monday, with about 3,220,000 viewers in the 5 p.m. EDT slot.
